Kandersteg International Scout Centre

Rosyth District are pleased to announce an expedition for Explorer Scouts from throughout Rosyth District to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) between Wednesday 17th and Tuesday 23rd July 2013.

Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) is a World Centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and was founded in 1923 when Walter von Bonstetten (the then Chief Scout of Switzerland) wrote to Baden-Powell telling him of this magical place he had found and how it would be the perfect place to accomplish our founder’s dream. The centre is now visited by over 12,000 Scouts & Guides from more than 40 different countries every year!

It is a place where you can be guaranteed to take part in activities, share stories over dinner and relax in the beautiful surroundings of Europe’s highest mountains; all in the company of Scouts from all corners of the world….

Did you know that Kandersteg is situated higher than Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK?

Why 2013? The summer of 2013 will mark the end of the 10th anniversary of Explorer Scouting in Rosyth District and what better way to celebrate that occasion than spending a week at the World Centre, a place we last visited in 2007 to celebrate the centenary of Scouting!

The exact programme will be chosen by the Explorer Scouts but could include any of these from over 130 different activities on offer:-

• Hikes and Climbing Workshops
• Ice Climbing and Glacier Expeditions
• International Friendship Activities
• Cable Cars and Toboggan Runs
• Eco Activities
• High Ropes Course
• Mountain Biking
• Day Trips

Please have a look at the Kandersteg website for a full list of all available activities – to see just how much is on offer.

What now?

For more information or to reserve a place on this exciting expedition, please contact the District Explorer Scout Commissioner.

Application deadline is 1st July 2012.

People are quite jealous when you tell them what you do, especially when you explain to them that Scouting has helped you travel around Europe, taken you gorge walking or skiing. I do it because I get a lot out of it and i am a better person for it! I would encourage anybody aged 14-18 to give Explorer Scouts a go as I know that they will not regret it!
